Cisco CCENT (100-105) Certification Preparation Details and Techniques

If you are preparing for CCENT or ICND1 certification exam then this article is for you. CCENT is the portion of CCNA routing and switching certification (CCNA certification can also be taken as passing ICND1 and ICND2 exams). CCENT -Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician is an entry-level Cisco certification. Cisco® CCENT Certification

CCENT®, short for Cisco® Certified Entry Network Technician is an entry level certification, offered by Cisco Systems. Cisco is the industry leader in offering networking certifications, specific to Cisco products and services.

The exam topics covered by CCENT are as given below. Please note that these are broad explanations and there might be some topics that had been removed or added. Cisco updates its syllabus from time to time, and check with the official exam site for latest information.

Domains:
1.0 Network Fundamentals  (Weightage: 20%): It includes various networking architectures such as star, mesh and hybrid, IPv4 and IPv6, subnetting, firewalls, wireless access points, cable types for different implementations, collapsed core and 3-tier architectures used in network design.
 
2.0 LAN Switching Fundamentals (Weightage: 26%): Topics include various switching concepts like frame switching, MAC address table, frame flooding, etc., configuring and troubleshooting inter-switch connectivity, and configuring and verifying port security in switches.
 
3.0 Routing Fundamentals (Weightage 25%): The topics include route determination, and forwarding, understanding the routing table and its constituents, configuring and troubleshooting inter VLAN routing, configure and verify ipv4 and ipv6 static routes. You may also need to know basic RIPv2 configuration.
 
4.0 Infrastructure Services (Weightage15%): The topics here include configuring and verifying various networking services like DNS, DHCP, and NTP (Network Time Protocol). Configuring standard and named access lists, static NAT, pool NAT, and PAT and troubleshooting the same.
 
5.0 Infrastructure Maintenance ( Weightage14%): Includes device monitoring using syslogs, device management including licensing, upgrades, etc., device hardening, and troubleshooting connectivity problems using ping, traceroute, terminal monitor, etc.

Overall, a broad spectrum of topics have been covered under CCENT. For most part, you don't need to learn Cisco specific topics in CCENT.
